I was not able to make the first night of a multinight stay in a Hyatt Regency hotel in Wichita Kansas. No matter the reason... But I called the hotel directly and they said it was no problem, they would gladly adjust the reservation to show me arriving the next day. SWEET! Thank you Hyatt. Oh no says the lady at the hotel, you booked by Orbitz. We cant adjust anything on our end. You'll have to do it through them. Crap... Ok.
Call orbitz... Nothing can be done. You are paying the full amount, even though the hotel is willing to accommodate. PERIOD.
When I booked the rates were effectively the same, but since I found the hotel and rate on orbitz, I thought it the right thing to do to book through them. WRONG.
Moral of the story, use orbitz to find the hotel, availability and rate... Then call the hotel directly. DO NOT USE ORBITZ for this reason cited above. Maybe all hotels are not as accommodating, but in this case orbitz simply said look at the cancelation policy and stood firm. At least with the vendor, your chances are better to negotiate your way into not getting ripped off due to unforeseen circumstances.
