I%u2019m writing to report a bad experience encountered with otel.com ; a site I came though as I was searching for hotels through Trivago.com. I made a reservation through otel.com about for Meritage Spa and Resort, the reservations were made with no hesitations but when my credit card was charged, I was charged by a company/web-site based out of UK (dhr.com). As far as I knew, I was making a reservation on ohtel.com%u2019s US section and had no idea that they would be dealing with dhr.com behind the scenes. Since this is a company based out of UK, I was charged an international transaction charge by my bank, even though I was completely oblivious to opaque dealings. If I would have known this would be an international transaction, I would have used a different card or better yet made a reservation through a different site.
I tried reaching them at the 24/7 helpline number posted by otel.com and on my reservation and no one has been picking up the phone for the past 3 days. I had to call the hotel directly to make sure that I was not scammed. Upon further investigation, I found out that there is another company called Bonotel Luxury Travel, involved in my reservation which dealt with dhr.com. I have little to no interest in finding out who all are making money on this transaction but I wanted the experience to be smooth. I tried contacting otel.com via email and received a response stating %u2018we have nothing to do with the international charge%u2019. The point I tried to make in my complaint was %u2013 there is no reason for me to dispute that charge with my bank, I should have been told upfront that I%u2019m making a reservation through an international site and would therefore be charged an international transaction fee. I have yet to hear a reply on my second email.
To top it all, otel.com (the actual site) is not functioning as of 7/30 9:50 A.M. Est. I don%u2019t know how to get an answer out of these guys. I would never make a reservation through otel.com and I should let you know that associating with sketchy sites like otel.com can%u2019t be good for Trivago.com%u2019s business either.
