I went to Critter's Wolf River Sports to purchase a trolling motor for my boat. I was told they gave good deals there. They gave me a good price with all required extra's, installed. They charged me more then I was quoted when I paid the bill because they told me it didn't include a few extra items and labor. The overcharge came to $149. This job was never set up as T&M. They tryed to tell me that the overcharge was for the inboard battery charger, but that item came to $155.00, and was included. They also had sold and installed a factory reconditioned motor without the knowledge of my wife or me. To make matters worse, they installed a wrong model motor on my boat type, that was too large for the bow, which in turn made my $700.00 custom cockpit cover unable to use without an expensive modification. They handed me a cover snap that they had to remove. I talked to the marine top dealer that made it, and was told it couldn't be modified.
I distinctly cautioned Critter's about this, and personally showed them where the cover came to. They were determined to make the motor fit without informing me first. After I discovered they had sold me a reconditioned motor, I insisted they take the motor back, he became angry with me, and relunctantly removed it. A billing statement was received at a later date when he attempted to justify his charges. He admitted to me that they had not as yet set up a billing system. It became very complicated. I did receive a refund, but it is difficult to understand the total amount. The main problem now is I have a boat with 7 drilled holes that are visible after I had a reliable marine dealer install the correct motor for this model boat. I have an estimate for $325.00 for the gelcoat repairs. I have made several efforts to settle with them, but always get some excuse. They swear that they have done nothing illegal or wrong. As God is my witness, they ripped me off, and are trying everything possible to get away with it. I have contacted the BCP, and they were denied settlement as well as lied to. I also contacted the BBB, and waiting for a reply. I am confident that they will also lie to them.
