Just a warning to the parents of the Town of Tonawanda DO NOT waste your money or time joining the KAT Pee Wee Football organization. Play is totally unfair.
Saleem Merukeb has got to be the worst "coach" ever. He along with his assistant coaches Bill Jonathan and Dave Ray have absolutely no clue what they are doing. Saleem has showed up to games bragging about still being "saucy" (meaning drunk) from the night before. Saleem spends every practice screaming "line it up". That is his idea of coaching. Bill and Dave spend every practice pulling 6 and 7 year olds around by their face masks and shoulder pads.
They have no enthusiasm what so ever and show no encouragment at all. They have no clue how to coach children in this age range. Saleem was apparently made Head Coach because of his vast football experience. Apon further investigation, we found he had his name on the roster of one unknown amatuer arena football team. Big deal, he may have football knowledge but is totally lacking in his skills with children and parents.
These guys think it is appropriate to tell 6 and 7 year old kids that they are terrible, they don't play in games because they don't run fast enough and when they are hurt or crying they tell them to suck it up and be men! Every single game is spent with the coaches kids' getting considerably more playing time than anybody. They are not encouraging sportsmanship at all, in fact they are encouraging the starting line and 2nd line to have tention between the two groups.
NOTHING on this team is rewarded. You don't have to show up to practices or even on time to games to be able to play the whole game. Yet kids who are on time and in attendence for every practice spent 90% of the game on the bench.
I do understand that usually this kind of stuff may be expected in football, but the commisioners of the team and all the higher ups in the team held a "parents" meeting at the beginning of the season. They stressed so much to the parents that their Pee Wee team is different. We were told this is an informational age group. So no score is kept, and the kids would be able to play all positions if they so desired. Let me tell you, these idiots play these kids like its the superbowl every week, and at the end of the games the score board still reads 0-0.
This entire team is a mess. I don't recommend signing your child up for any team involving these coaches. It is a joke. They couldn't coach anybody at anything they are so clueless.
Don't waste your money, you are better off spending 20 hours a week in your backyard teaching your child how to play football on your own. At least at the end of 12 weeks they will have basic fundamentals of football down. With these coaches my son is going to end pee wee footbal not knowing anymore about the sport than he started with.
Save yourself the aggrivation and don't give anymore money to this team. They should be shut down by the Town, it is a total scam.
