I am yet another victim in the Beyond Fitness fiasco in North Carolina and other states. Eighteen months ago, I pre-paid for a 2-year membership for a gym that was to open in 4 months. The date kept getting delayed, until it became obvious that the gym would never open.
We were all told that the gym would come under new management and the membership contracts would be honored. No new management, no gym. The state district attorney's office was beseiged with complaints.
I was told by the Beyond Fitness "billing service" (not part of Beyond Fitness, just "paid" to handle their billings and complaints) to send a registered letter requesting a full refund, which would take up to 30 days to prepare and mail. Letter delivered in June. It's now August and no refund.
The Cary, NC phone number ("headquarters" according to the billing service) is an answering service which cannot accept any messages because the message queue is "full" 24/7. The "Billing service" reports that they recevieved my request for a refund and forwarded the message to Beyond Fitness HQ.
Final note: there are still Beyond Fitness gyms open in NC, so income is being generated. Perhaps it's time for a class action law suit...
