"New Scam"

Verizon Wireless has begun a new policy of charging its loyal customers a $30.00 phone upgrade fee when anyone upgrades their old phone to a new phone regardless if they upgrade to a free basic phone or a $99.00 smart phone.

Verizon states that this new fee helps to offset the cost of smart phone maintenance on the Verizon Wireless networks, but this fee is not exclusive to just smart phones. Those that opt for the free basic cell phone also have to pay this smart phone fee which is what I'm complaining about.

Unlike most of society I don't need to be "connected" 24/7 because I have a life, and not the fake social media life that most have now a days. As such I only need a basic old fashioned phone in the event I get strained on the side of the road, or in the event of a major emergency. As long as there are no emergencies I don't even use my cell phone and instead use our house phone or my office phone.

It is not fair to people like myself, who have been Verizon customers for many, many, many years that we have to pay a $30.00 fee to upgrade to a free basic phone mind you, to offset the cost of those that use smart phones.

Please also note that the $30.00 fee now also applies to anyone that decides to lower the minutes on their call plan, or decides to cancel their service.

This fee is tantamount to price gouging given that we are locked in a worsening economic depression, and have been in one for the past 6 years.

Verizon needs to only charge the $30.00 fee to smart phone users and leave us thrifty basic phone subscribers out of it.
