There was an enticing advertisement on TV for a cut rate price for Dish Network services. I called the company and was bounced around to several female reps that could not speak a complete sentence in English. To make matters worse, there was a lot of shouting in the background, which in itself is not professional.
I finally was connected to Sean, who spoke fairly good English but spoke as if is had 20 cups of coffee.
He offered me a package that was similar to one I have now with a different company, with a savings of at least $50. He explained to me that I would have HD TV on two sets along with a dvr recorder and a plain box, all for $49.50.
To sign up, he needed a cc to charge a dollar, so he could be sure it was me. I agreed and told him that the card was not to be used for anything else. He explained that the card would be held as a back up in case I did not pay my monthly
bill. I explained that I did not want my monthly charges to be made to my cc and he agreed.
He charged my card for a dollar and was ready to sign me up. I agreed to a 2 year contract for 49 dollars a month and asked him to send me an invoice by email, which he did after our call.
Immediately I received an email telling me that I had been charged $72.00 for the first month, way over his quote. I then called their special customer non-service line. I told the person, again from either India or the Orient, that I did not want my card charged for monthly fees; I would send a check instead.
I was informed that my fees had to be charged to my cc and there was no other way. She then told me that I could pay the bill myself if I paid them $99 up front as a security fee.
I then told her to cancel my account and was told that there would be a $385 charge for terminating the account and that my cc would be charged. I immediately got off the phone and warned my bank. They were able to halt any further payments to them.
This is one big scam, once they get your cc, you are dead in the water. Be warned about Dish Netowrk.
