I bought 2 items: cat food and some dessert cakes, and was in a bit of a hurry. The cashier had one of those remote barcode readers, and apparently pressed twice for the cat food (Purina, 18# bag) which I didn't notice when she rang me up. I just signed my name to the receipt and went on my way. When I got home, I noticed the overcharge, but what was I to do. Go back to the store carrying only one bag and say I was charged for two? It'd be their word against mine.
Moral: inspect the receipt before leaving the checkout area.
