A twenty year old petite girl and her small dog were locked out of their apartment in the sweltering Phoenix heat by this apartment management company. The girls' father, who had pre-paid for the month of July through and including August 2nd, turned his keys to the apartment in 2 days early because he was leaving the area. The young girl's belongings were still in the apartment and she has planned to remove them with friends later that evening. When she returned to the apartment to pick them up, the management company had changed the locks and refused her entrance into her apartment.
Because she had been dropped off, she had nowhere to go. Repeated calls to the apartment manager, the AEW headquarters, the district manager - all went unanswered.in fact, the apartment manager Rachel Moore, hung up on this young girl's dad. They even called the police and refused to open the door.
They stated that there was fine print in the lease that allowed them to do this, Even though the parent had pre-paid for the lease. When the girl was given a copy of the lease, there was nothing in it that referenced allowing them to change the locks.
Their behavior was unconscionable, and illegal.
