Careerbuilder and other Job Search Boards are not good avenues to find good, steady employment. 99% of the openings on Job Boards are posted by Temporary Staffing Agencies who hide the fact they are a staffing agency and make it appear as if the position is for a Direct Hire Job. These agencies also use the job boards to mine for resumes to get people to register with them when they don't even have the jobs available.
Before I started working for myself I had to make my resume on Careerbuilder and the other job boards private because I was being spammed by staffing agencies who would call me up only to get HR contacts of my previous employers. These folks were very aggressive and really didn't have any positions open, they just wanted leads... The best thing to do is to contact the Chamber of Commerce to find the Businesses in your town and then apply at those businesses directly.
Also, I forgot to mention that when I called to complain to Careerbuilder about being harrassed and spammed by so many temp agencies contacting me out the blue and suddenly quizzing me on the HR contacts at my previous companies Careerbuilder did not care. I asked why when I went to options to exclude temp agencies from my search results the manager at Careerbuilder stated that Careerbuilder "allows" temp agencies to circumvent those blocks if the position is temp to hire. So for instance if you don't want to work through a Staffing Agency at all you cannot exclude it from your results if the staffing agency says the person "has the chance" to become permanent. The only thing is the staffing agencies are known for lying like ALL positions become permanent or the agency misleads the user alltogether by making it appear like they are the actual company.
This is misleading as most jobs now adays are not temp to hire because too many companies now rotate temps so that they are never hired permanent.
All temporary staffing agencies who take a percentage of one's check should be banned. They only allow companies to circumvent labor laws and to get out of paying people a fair wage or giving them benefits. You also have no rights. "ever"..
