My husband and I were contacted by Washington Gas during a promotion of their budget plan. We were told that you will end up paying a set amount throughout the year and at the end of the year your bill will be adjusted according to usage.
For example, our total CCF of Gas used for one month would be 86 but the following month it would be 186. We were getting charged double sometimes tripled the amount.
When we spoke with customer service they told us not to worry they would adjust the bill, but it was never adjusted instead they disconnected service because they claimed we decided to cancel the budget plan.
We did not cancel the plan instead Washington Gas customer service removed us from the plan themselves because we refused to pay the bill until this matter was resolved. We ended up with a $1372 during the summer months (we live in an apartment building) when we did not use gas service that much.
With the help of the People's Counsel we were able to get Washington Gas to admit to their mistake and restore service. If you are every contacted regarding the budget plan do not fall for it because it's a big ripoff.
