I am an elementary teacher in a rural area. This is my first year teaching. I needed professional work clothes and shopped at Banana Republic Inc. And decided to open a Banana Republic Credit Card through GE Capital Bank.
A few months later, a charge appeared on my credit card statement for a purchase made in a Meijer store in Bowling Green, Ohio (over 9 hours away!) This purchase was documented as taking place at 9:40 P.M. And the identity thief must have shopped for quite a while to rack up about $500!! —I work everyday until 4:15 and there is no way it would have been physically possible for me to make these charges. The customer service people were hard to deal with—and the "investigation" they conducted was minimal at best—The so called investigators must think I'm really Samantha from BeWitched or that I have some super human powers.
Nonetheless, save yourself a headache and do NOT open a Banana Republic Credit Card. They are not secure, are hard to work with (I called customer service numerous times and wrote letters without any response or action on their part) and are overall crooks.
