Company gave a estimate of $2,600.00 to move my belongings contained in a 10x20 storage unit, plus two bedroom sets and about 40 boxes from a different location close to the storage unit. They said I would be charged an extra $100.00 to go to the second location. When they arrived at the storage location the driver of the van crashed into a fire escape and impaled his truck onto the fire escape.
It took about 2 hours to wait for a tow truck and have the van removed. A crew of 6 sat around and did nothing during this time. I knew that some of the loose items in the storage unit needed to be boxed up but the costs and what needed to be boxed was not discussed with me. I signed an agreement at the unit agreeing to the estimate of $ 2700.00 and was told the boxes would be extra. When I asked how much extra I was told they won't know until they weigh it. As the van was filling up several of the crew including the owner kept asking me how much more at the house needed to go and I detailed every peice of furniture and boxes that were there. I was told I was going to have to get another truck because one truck wasn't big enough.
I told them i couldn't afford another truck my company had a cap on moving expanses and anything over that cap was my responsibility. The owner told me if my company was paying i shouldn't worry about the cost because they have to pay for it no matter waht it is. They took the truck to the other location dropped off some of the crew to beging packing while the truck went back to its warehouse an hour away to unload some of my things to go into storage until it can be put on a truck coming down towards my new home.
It was 5 hours before the truck returned to finish loading the rest of my things. The next day the owner called and informed ne it would be an additional $6,000.00 to have my things delivered and no word was mentioned about the 2nd half of my shipment. There were all kinds of costs not discussed prior to loading and she had 2 hours while we waited for the tow truck to tell me. When i would ask about costs she would say its all based on weight, yetnow I'm being told about costs that had nothing to do with weight that add up to $4000.00!
I told her I did not have that kind of money and that it wasn't fair since she had not told me prior to packing what it would cost. She refuses to deliver my belongings I have no idea where they are.in an act of desperation my siser and brother in law offered to pay the extorsionist the $6,000.00 but wanted to put it on their VISA so they would have protection from the bill increasing since we don't know the status of the shipment they took to the poconos.
The owner told me that her VISA machine was broke and that to have my things delivered I must wire the money into her account. This was a 4:30 on a Friday afternoon. I am a single mother with an young son. We are in a new place i have just started a new job and everything we own, clothes, shoes, furniture, etc are with this company.
They won't return phone calls and hang up on me when I demand explanation of charges. I have since found out that they are operating with out a license as their lissence was revoked on July 19th. They have taken everything i own and will not give it back if I don't pay them what they want and how they want it paid. The law says that they have to deliver and that I am required to pay the estimate plus 10%.
I gave them $3,000.00 on a $2,700.00 estimate. The law says I should have 30 days to pay any remaining balance but I am to have my things delivered. PLEASE HELP!!!
