I contacted Kirk Ritherford 2/28 to locate my half brother.
I paid him 350$ to do this search.
On 3/8 he said "I have a great deal of confidence that we will be able to find your half brother."
On 3/17 he said "I look forward to a successful journey."
On 6/1, I asked for a status update on my case.
On 6/15, I finally heard from Kirk. He described himself as a "one man show" and had been out of town and would send an update soon.
On 6/28, 7/20, and 7/31, I called and emailed to no avail.
Finally, on 8/8, Kirk responded. There was no update and no evidence of a search done in the service of finding my half brother. He admitted to doing a Google search. Imagine my horror. Add insult to injury, he asked for information that I had already provided him. It was clear to me that my case was neither clear nor important to him.
On 1/9, I requested a second update. "Delivery to the following recipient failed" His email address no longer works. When I called his 1-800 number to speak with him directly, it is now a number for a credit card company. When I contacted the BBB, they had no record of his address. When I contacted the state, the last claim he filed with them was in 1996. If Kirk Rutherford was a bonafide private investigator running a legitimate business, there would be a way to contact him. I have no other recourse and must post this warning to all who may consider hiring him. Do not. He is a scam artist.
