Vantage perpetuates and even sets new heights to the concept of "scum-landlords" in new york city!!! I rented an apartment from this company on 9.1.2011 and was told by my broker that they were "an excellent" management company. This could not be further from the truth! And I made no qualms about calling him back after the 3 months of sheer hell that I have been through to let him know what I thought of his comment. Also agreed that this company doesn't even deserve a 1-star rating! To be entirely honest, I must state that my apartment is beautiful and spacious and unlike the other post I read on here, I cannot state that I have had any problem with the renovations that were done on the apartment. The problems that exists in the building unfortunately have been HORRIFIC!!! And Vantage Management's response to the problem and how they have treated me as a rent-paying tenant have been the ABSOLUTE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE that I have ever experienced in my 45 years on this planet! And I make that comment coming from someone, who being a chef for almost 30 years, knows a little something about customer service!
Within days of moving in I realized that there was a serious drug trafficking problem which existed in the building and unfortunately centered around my floor of the building. I don't live in a bad or poor or terrible crime-infested area, I live in a building in a decent working neighborhood in upper Manhattan, so the fact that I have drug dealers and their clients loitering in my hallway 24/7 is appalling to me as is the fact that the smell and smoke of marijuana and cigarettes is constantly filtering into my apartment through the door! BUT... The truly atrocious aspect of this apartment was yet to come! About 20 days after I moved in, my neighbor starts playing music at ASTROMICAL volumes - all hours of the day and night - literally it sounded like someone had concert speakers placed against my walls. Every single inch of my apartment would vibrate (and unfortunately still does whenever she decides to "crank it up"), my floors, dining table, and walls were all resonating from the tenants music as well as rattling the glass in my windows! Even my bed would vibrate! And I'm not talking about 30 minutes, or a couple of hours - 8,12, 16 hours at a time - once for 27 hours straight! Having lived in major cities since 1986 and almost always in apartment buildings, I am truly horrified that any person could conscionably play music at such an absurd level, and especially during the night between 10pm and 9am.
So I immediately go into proactive mode, documenting the offenses and video recording the music as it is received in my apartment. Calling the police (311 as well as my local precinct) was to no avail as the previously mentioned drug trafficking was related to my neighbor's apartment - when the police would come to the building (which was almost daily) the drug dealers would duck into my neighbor's apartment to take refuge. However I have logged over 50 occurrences of calling the police in just over 2 months. What does Vantage Management do? Until the last 2 weeks of the problem, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! The company policy is not to take tenant noise complaints over the phone - I have to write a letter. Ok! I've written 9 letters to them in just over 60 days and have NEVER RECEIVED ANY WRITTEN response to any of the letters. Futhermore, I have only ever received one phone call from any employee at Vantage and that was almost 2 months ago! I called and called and called and was never able to speak to ANYONE!!! My messages were NEVER RETURNED! One day I was on the phone for 90 minutes straight calling, calling, calling... Not once was my call answered and the messages that I left were NEVER responded to.
The building manager doesn't even come into the building - she does a "drive-by" and drops off papers and information to the super and in over 3 months I have seen her get out of her car twice and have never physically seen her in the building - EVER! The super is a nice man, not the best super I've ever encountered, but neither is he the worst and realistically, this kind of problem is beyond what he should be expected to deal with. THIS COMPANY HAS IGNORED ME OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN! They don't care about their clients/tenants at all!!! Once while looking through their website in order to try and find someone, ANYONE, that I could actually talk to about this horrible problem, I found the following listing of amenities for my building...
? Elevator Building? Prewar Building? Laundry On-Site? Pet Friendly? 24/7 Maintenance Hotline? 24/7 Security Surveillance? Secure High-Tech Entry System? Close to Public TransportationThe 24/7 maintenance hotline is great if you want to wait on hold FOREVER! The 24/7 security surveillance does no good if no one cares to do anything about problems which are OBVIOUSLY being recorded day after day after day! And the 'Secure High-Tech Entry System' just means that all you need to do is give the main door of the building a swift kick and it pops open. That is when it even works - for almost the last 2 weeks now, it has been broken and all you have to do is walk up and push the door open! Vantage puts on a wonderful show! They have a "glossy" high-tech website and modern trendy looking offices, but the bottom line is THEY JUST DON'T CARE!!! Avoid this company at all costs!!! Tell your friends to avoid this company at all costs! I wouldn't even send my enemies to this company!
