I received a digital camera as a Christmas gift. It did not work. When, in January, I tried to return it to Circuit City (where it was bought) I was told that they could not locate the purchase in their wonderful computer and that I would need to get the receipt.
The people who bought this camera for me live in another state and it was some time before I was able to get the receipt from them. Finally, receipt in hand, I went back to Circuit city to try again. I was turned down again. This time because too much time had passed since the purchase.
There was never any doubt that the camera was their merchandise, not even the first time I tried to return it in January. The salesman in the camera department recognized the model and said that "they had gotten a lot of complaints about it". Now I have the receipt in my hand, and they still will not take responsibility for this faulty merchandise that they sold to my niece. As far as I'm concerned, that's stealing. The camera is a piece of garbage, it never worked and they know it.
Circuit city has taught me that customer service is dead. Not only is the customer no longer always right, now they are always wrong. I will never shop there again and I urge others never to shop there as well. If you must, at least be very careful. Try the merchandise you are buying in the store before you make your purchase - not the floor model either, THE item you intend to buy. And, for god's sake, keep your receipt!
