We live in MI and flew to Orlando to help our daughter move to another city in FL. We had a written quote from Nice Guy Movers and had a moving time of 8:00 - 9:00 am. We wanted to move early because of the heat in FL in July.
We got up early and took the bed apart (everything else was ready to go) as we were expecting them around 8 am. I had to call repeatedly all day to ask when they were coming and got a different excuse every time.
They finally showed up at 5:45 pm, after waiting all day and of course it was extremely hot by then. When I spoke with the dispatch they assured me I would get a discount because of waiting for almost 10 hours.
1st the movers asked me about my quote, I had a copy and gave them the information I was given. They said it was incorrect and I could talk to their boss about it, they dialed him and we spoke and he assured me we would take care of it all after we got to the new city. He said because of it being so late the movers needed to get going.
Well, they don't know how to get going at all. My husband made three trips up and down the steps carrying items to the truck before either one of them made one trip! This is how the entire move went, us doing more then them! Keep in mind they are paid an hourly rate, so dragging it out they earn more.
They damaged furniture and were not careful at all. I was directly behind one mover when he dragged some furniture on the cement (it hit the cement two times) and the leg splintered. I told him about it and he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about, when I said I was right behind you and saw it, he said we will have it fixed. We were supposed to get 3 wardrobes to move the clothes in, and they only provided 1.
After arriving at the new location the driver called his boss and spent over 1 hour (remember the hourly rate) calling back and forth before ever bringing in the furniture. Not only were the prices they were giving me higher than my original quote, but they wanted me to pay an additional hourly rate for the travel time on top of the travel time fee in my quote, and higher fuel charges than in my quote. After heated discussions on both parts (us, driver and his boss) the driver insisted that we pay the much higher rate than we were quoted or he would leave with all of our belongings.
The driver went to the truck, closed it up and prepared to leave. All of the belongings were being held hostage unless we paid the new higher amount. We had no choice but to pay. Once again, my husband, and now also my daughter did more of the moving then the hired movers! The last of the items was brought up at 11:45 pm, just before midnight and we were supposed to start at 8:00 am! Talk about a long, frustrating and exhausting day.
My daughter was paying for the move to save her retired father from the strain of the move, not only up and down 3 flights of stairs but in the FL heat. She was extremely upset that she was out almost double the money we were quoted and we did the majority of the work.
I don't know how Nice Guy Movers can stay in business let alone use that name!!
