MCi Worldcom ripoff. Credit jeopardized because of these clowns

Shame on Worldcom Wireless! I Entered into a contract with them in February. The first bill I received was in May for 02/06/01-04/05/01 billing period. The excuse they gave was that there was a problem with their billing. "It should be straightened out shortly" I was told.

Well, it's now November 28th and I have had a problem with them every month. My latest fiasco (for lack of a better word) is this: Back in August I received a phone call at 8:00 am on a Saturday morning (waking me up) from their "collection dept." saying that they were going to shut off my phone because I hadn't paid my bill. "I had not yet received the bill, why would
I pay a bill I had not yet received?!" I told the guy. He said there was nothing he could do and that unless I wanted my phone shut off I would have to give him a check number and make sure that was the check I sent in as payment for the bill (the one I hadn't received yet). Being that he took me off guard, I gave him the check information.

Realizing a few days later that I should not have done that, I called my bank to close my account, for fear that MCI Worldcom Wireless would try to debit my account automatically. The woman in the Fraud Department of my bank to me to send them a different check number and void the one out that I had told him I
was sending. This way we would know if they did try and debit my account.

Well, it turns out they did try to debit my account. They put through a "Pre Authorized" debit using the check number I voided. (I still have the real check that I voided as well as a copy from my bank of the "Pre Authorized Debit").

I never "Authorized" a debit from my account. I specifically was told that my account would not be debited and that the
reason they asked for the check number was to make sure I was sending it like I said I would. I just received my bill (late again) for 09/06/01-10/05/01 and there is a returned check fee for $10 on it.

They are now trying to charge me a fee because my bank rejected their fraudulent debit. My last payment was also mis-credited on my bill and they are saying I am past due. My bill is so screwed up that I can't even figure out what they did! I have tried for 4 days (a total of 23 times) to get in touch with them. I finally got an actual human being instead of the
message "due to the unusually long hold times your call cannot be
completed, please call again later".

The man I spoke to was named Terry, I started to explained my problem and he tried to tell me to check with my bank, that there was a check returned. I quickly told him that it was not
a check and that I had a copy of a "debit" right in front of me that was never authorized. Then he stated that I would have to speak to someone in the "account services" department, that he could not help me with billing issues. He put me on hold to transfer me, I then heard a busy signal and was disconnected. I have tried to get through, but keep getting the same message "please try again later".

I am totally frustrated and once my contract is up, I can guarantee that I will be cancelling my contract. I have already tried to cancel it without being charged the cancellation fee. They said that as far as they were concerned they have fulfilled their end of the contract by me having a usable cell phone service. I have never in my life had a problem like this
with anyone. I have told everyone I know not to use them.

I can't believe how they can get away with what they have been doing. I know I'm not the only one having problems with them, I've seen them on the news. I just don't know what else I can do to try and resolve this. I can't get anyone to help me at Worldcom. I don't want my credit jeopardized because of
these clowns.

I am at my wit's end, HELP!

Sincerely,
Laura Geyer
