A supposed college student came to the door at around 8:30 P.M. The young man was dressed in typical "skater boy" attire and looked to be about 20. He claimed he lives around the block from us and attends Riverside Community College where he studies communications.
The scammer showed what appeared to be 'official' ID which is where I saw the Team Xtreme Sales company name. He was selling books in a competition to win a trip to London where he wouldget to interview John Cleese (of Monty Python fame) and go to the Globe Theatre.
He tried to sell me $110 worth of children's books and said some of the money would go towards helping kids. After I told him I was not in a position to spend that kind of money, he offered to wash my car for a smaller donation. I gave him $20 even though I was becoming suspicious. Stupid me.
He was very talkative and courteous, but then asked about my neighbors. I told him I couldn't help him with that. After he left, I then went to the internet and found similar experiences other people had with this group. I called the police to report the scam.
