A handsome young man selling cookbooks, took my money to help his baseball team take a trip

A handsome, blonde teenage boy came to my door selling cookbooks. He said he lived around the corner and if I bought the cookbooks it would help pay for the kids on his baseball team that could not afford to go on a team trip. When I declined, he offered to wash my car or walk my dog. He said his mom was friends with some of our neighbors on our small neighborhood street and that he lived on the corner a block away. I told him I already supported an organization for disadvantaged kids, of course with that he convinced me how meaningful it would be for the kids on his team that couldn't afford the trip to go. I was duped, I gave him a check for $80 for two cookbooks, which I thought was outrageous anyway, but of course I felt sorry for these poor kids and thought what a nice young man was at my door helping to raise money for them. Well, this was in Feb and I have never received the cookbooks and he indeed does not live in my neighborhood. I wasn't even suspicious, which I normally am and never give to anyone at the door EXCEPT this time. I have been scammed. Of course the check was cased long ago. He told me my donation was tax deductible as well so I figured I could deduct this donation.
