The Shack Insurance plan was explained and purchased, ended up to be a useless extended service plan... Useless

Ripped Off at Radio Shack: Below is an email I sent to Radio Shack Customer Service radioshack. Customer. [email protected], 12 May, explaining the problem I had with their insurance.
I hope that if you decide to purchase their insurance, you get what you believe youre paying for. Good luck. My name and phone # were removed, but otherwise, this is what I sent in. Enjoy In the end, I was misled and bought two different policies, the more expensive one for the smart phones covers less than the less expensive plan. At this point I don't expect satisfaction regarding this situation, I just want others to have this info, so that they don't get similarly victimized by "The Shack". Is it any wonder our economy is in the shape it's in?

I did receive a follow-up call from a miss Yvonne at Radio Shack District office (956) 630-2342 and was told that since I had cancelled the service plan, they would not be able to do anything else to resolve the issue. I was also told that the store manager remembers the transaction, and that the policies were explained in full. I really do have to argue that point; The two different policies were not explained. The ONLY explanation I received was the fact that only loss and theft are not covered, and the price difference was because one was a smart phone. If the difference in the policies had been explained, I surely would not have purchased the plan, given that my credit card duplicates and doubles manufacturer's warranties. Thanks for nothing Radio Shack. On to the letter...

Sir/Ma'am,
On December 20 I went into the Radio Shack store at 2730 South Brahma Boulevard, Kingsville, TX 78363 (361) 592-1912 to update our wireless phone plan. Your sales people recommended a Sprint plan that appeared to suit our needs, so, I followed the recommendation of the clerk. The sales clerk also recommended that I purchase insurance for the phones. I got a plan with 3 lines; 2 of the lines are for my kids, so I purchased Radio Shack "insurance" for their phones, after the clerk told me that everything except loss or theft are covered...
One phone was a samsung instinct, the other a palm pixi... Both phones were great disappointments shortly after the boys started using them.
The price of the insurance was more on the pixi, and it was explained to me that it is because it is a "Smart Phone", no other explanation was given. During the sale I asked several times what was and was not covered under the insurance plan and was told that everything except loss or theft were covered. At no time was any difference in the plans explained, other than the cost due to the Pixi being a smart phone. I was never told that I was being sold an extended service plan. Only after my son dropped his phone and cracked the screen did I learn that the $120 "insurance" policy is actually an extended service plan, and does not cover such damages. I was misled to believe that I had purchased insurance... I have absolutely no need for an extended service plan, as my credit card duplicates and doubles manufacturer's warranties. I don't know if the misrepresentation was intentional, accidental, or what, but the end result borders on fraud. The only option I was given was to cancel my policy for that phone and receive a pro-rated refund, so I cancelled the policy. I am not satisfied, but I feel that it is my only way to recover anything that I lost in this transaction. I had the policy flier in hand when I went to the Radio Shack store to complain, then I was given the other pamphlet for the service plan... It was not presented at the time of sale. I would not be writing this email if the phone was dropped and broken, had I not purchased the insurance, but I did purchase what I was led to believe was insurance on the 2 of our 3 phones that the kids would be using, because I know that kids are more prone to break their phones. I feel that I was treated unfairly, I do want the phone fixed or replaced, and I don't think I will get satisfaction with the local Radio Shack store.
The account is for Swindled Customer (361) xxxx-xxxx, the damaged phone is a Palm Pixi under phone # (361) xxx-xxxx.

The staff in the store did conduct themselves in a professional manner, and were courteous, but I still feel that I was misled regarding the insurance purchase, and I do want this issue resolved. Thank you.

Respectfully,
Swindled Custome
