I purchased an alarm system from PA in June while my husband was in Afghanistan and I was home with my two young children. First off, I was sent the system and told to install it myself. I had no clue where to begin so I called Tech support and they walked me through the process... All 6 hours of it! They tested it once it was installed and said it was working properly.
In June my husband was able to come home for a few weeks so we took a one week vacation with our kids. When we came home, we found our house had been broken into and the police were never notified. After calling the police and our insurance companies, I contacted PA about the incident and they pretty much had a don't care attitude about it. About a week later, our insurance company as well as us, received a letter from PA lawyers stating that they are not responsible for anything and then went on to lie and say that I had called them on the 17th of June and told them that our system was unplugged. I never said that and I had called them right after our home had been broken into as the police had said they were never notified.
The day I received the letter, I called PA to dispute their allegations and to cancel our contract and they said we had to send a letter 60 prior to the end of our contract. We have been paying for over a year now on a system we no longer have. Since then, we have signed a contract with a reputable alarm company. I sent a letter about 75 days prior to our contract being renewed to cancel it and yesterday I sent a certified letter to reiterate our request to cancel.
However, it is now my fear that as many have complained of doing the same with the letter 60 days out and the company not acknowledging it, that PA will state they did not receive my letter and will continue to bill me for another year...
I do not understand how this company can still be in business with all the complaints and shady practice they are known for. What can we do to get them closed forever?
