Legend Marketing
Multi-Tier Sales, Pyramid Scheme, door-to-door sales

I went in for my first interview and I should have known the place was a ridiculous scam. The company was not professional and they had blaring rap music playing as I sat to fill out my "evaluation packet."

I was brought in on the promise that I'd be using my degree in advertising to its fullest advantage and that it would be a great first job out of college. When I arrived to be interviewed the assistant manager of the company, who seemed like a decent guy, interviewed me like he had rehearsed a script. He also told me they worked with a lot of Fortune 500 companies, but would not specify who they were, except for AT&T. The interview lasted all of 15 minutes. Two hours later, I got a call back saying they'd like me to come in for a second interview.

I arrived a week later. They asked me to wear a specific type of "uniform." Business casual with a white or blue top. This was so as not to confuse the customers. I was lead to believe that I would be with one of the top executives sitting in on meetings and seeing what they do. What actually happened was, when I got there I'd be going on location to one of their direct marketing events. I got in the car with a "top executive" and another sales girl. Half way to this "event" I was told that we'd be doing door-to-door sales for AT&T U-Verse.

This is NOT a marketing position. This is a door-to-door sales, 100% commission-based job that is, quite frankly, a pyramid scheme. And the way they conduct their door-to-door business is completely unprofessional, including using the phrase "retarded" to a customer TWICE, making fun of people in the neighbourhood after leaving the house, and flat out LYING to potential customers. But never ONCE in the process of talking to the people at the company was I told that this was a door-to-door sales job and that Legend Marketing is just a local chapter to a larger entity.

The only thing I'll stress is I never felt unsafe with the people who took me out, and when I told them that I wasn't comfortable spending the rest of the day with them, and that this wasn't what I thought it was, they drove me back to the main offices.

I feel stupid for not investigating further into the company, but I was lead to believe this was a small marketing agency just getting off the ground in OKC, NOT a pyramid scheme.
