Okay, with that out of the way, as per the conditions and intent of this site, I wish to simply abide by the terms and premise, and hereby file and document a complaint regarding my local US Post Office.
Where to begin... This branch is what I have dubbed "the land that time forgot". It has no air conditioning or even a fan for the customers, it is dimly lit, only has metered parking, is under staffed, and you are approached by all kinds of picketers and commies and "legalize marijuana" people and all the riff raff you can imagine, just to mail a package.
Now I can overlook most of it as I chose to live in this hell hole for business reasons, but when you enter this Post Office, make sure you cleared your morning/afternoon schedule of any other prior commitments, you are going to be there for a while. I need to use this PO to ship for my home based businesses, and rarely get in and out of there in under 1/2 hour, the typical length of wait time is 45 minutes all the while hoping you do not get a ticket if the meter expires. To combat that, I have to maximize the amount the meter can take since I never know how long the wait will be. It is difficult to see the length of the line from outside, they have a divider up and even if the lot and street are not full, it could be full of people who walk there. However, I have been there with only one person in front of me, and it still took over 1/2 hour. This PO also has no machines that allow you to self ship, as I could use those for most of my domestic shipping if they did to possibly save time.
The reason is: 1) under staffing. They have 5 or so windows, usually only 2 workers, sometime only one. 2) The workers move so slow you can practically see cobwebs forming on them.in a sense I can't blame them for moving slow, it is so hot I am surprised they are not on strike for hazardous working conditions, or they have not fainted from heat exhaustion. I know I have gotten dizzy spells several times while waiting there in unbearable heat..
I understand there may be cutbacks and they may be financially struggling, but this PO is always busy, as most are in Los Angeles. And anyone who does regular mailing and shipping of even small packages, knows they charge enough. How I pre - determine the costs of shipping, is figure how much I believe is a fair price. Add 20-30% to that. Then DOUBLE my estimate. That is the way it always works out closest.
I have other options as far as branches to use if I want to drive out of the way and those have machines, fans and/or AC, and more efficient workers, but there is no reason why my local branch out of convenience to the community, can't step it up into the 21st century. We are a busy hardworking people, we have other things to do with our time then stand in blistering heat for 45 minutes to mail a package. Get with the times P.O., it's not too much to expect. It is not Christmas season now, it should take no longer then 3-5 minutes to mail a package under most circumstances.
