(Reassuring? With a slogan like this — these movers must take pride in their work. Plus, add Mark Ash, a glorified salesman who talks a good talk, swears by his company and seals the deal!)
... AND $636 of packing materials!!! (We packed 90% of our thingswho knew?)
-$223 worth of bubble wrap
-$100 20 rolls of tape (the most expensive tape I have ever seen!)
-$125 25 pad (brown paper that goes with a lot of tape)
-$50 crate because minimum rate applies
-$44 picture boxes
-$24 wardrobe carton
-$22 TV box
-$12 china box
AND theses boxes are because the movers, consisting of three amateurish men who likely have no previous experience or training, were being creative and inspired. Perhaps they believed in the egg carton analogy too. It's a shame that even the best carton can't protect an egg when it is repeatedly dropped, hit, bumped, jostled, and buried under heavier furniture.
So did our furniture arrive unscratched and intact from Franklin Park, NJ to Harrisburg, PA? NO it did not!
China Cabinet - Hardware are missing in order to install the two glass doors and the bottom corner where they tipped the cabinet is cracked and chipped.
Sofa Golf ball size hole on the back.
Vertical Cabinet scratched, chipped and dented.
Toy Chest in pieces and hardware are missing.
With $636 of packing materials, and a semi-English speaking man named Norman, who LOVED his packing tape and Mark Ash's word, NOTHING should be broken! Norman even taped an empty plastic dog food container securely shut! (He even elaborately boxed our house plant — we found out later on when we arrived in our new house after they had left.) Now what to do? Just let it go? After several phone calls we filed a claim.
What does On Line Moving & Storage, Inc. Do?
They sent a $30 check to cover the cost for the china cabinet hardware.
Apparently, since we declined the extra $150 insurance with a $250 deductible, $30 is all we are due. You would think with $636 of overpriced packing materials that some protection should be afforded. Unfortunately they recognized no fault on their part even though our real estate broker witnessed them dropping several boxes. While a court would likely support us, we unfortunately cannot afford the time or expense to follow up our claim against them.
MOVING is STRESSFUL! The day of the move is even more stressful especially if you have never moved before. There are a lot of fine prints and details. These movers will not offer any explanation unless you ask and even if you ask it is not enough. On Line Moving & Storage, Inc. Will take advantage of you.
-Mark Ash reassured the move will be no stress (that was his speech). He lied.
-Mark Ash estimated over the phone that the loading and unloading will take six hours total. Norman and his crew added three more hours with the clock ticking at $90 an hour. Plus, don't forget the $636 packing materials!
-Very stressful when you see Norman using tape like it is water.
-Norman also got to our new place and was able to unload quickly and didn't let us know after the fact. Another hour extra they charged.
-Norman tried to add another extra half hour on their trip.
-Norman also tried to charge us for fuel costs, after we disagreed with him and told him that fuel was included; he had to call in and verify what we said.
-Norman doubled the tolls but we found out later on that the directions we gave him didn't have any tolls (another $45 extra - PA turnpike to get to PA and I-78 to get back to Harrison, NJ).
-Norman made sure he and the other two were tipped.
-Uri Cohen still has not returned my call so I can discuss with him the $30 check.
-Did we also mention that On Line Moving & Storage, Inc. Has two complaints filed against them with the Better Business Bureau? We thought maybe two complaints are not so bad, but with this company two complaints are too many!
On Line Moving & Storage, Inc. Will not take responsibility for their work. Sure they will be happy to move you and charge you a lot of extra $ and after that you are on your own.
