Cashed Check, No Magazine, Will Not Answer Phone

Publishers Billing Exchange, Inc is a third party selling subscriptions to magazines. They do not represent the publishers of the magazines.
I sent a check in July for a 2 year subscription renewal.in December, I received a notice from the publisher that my subscription was about to expire. They told me they never received payment. When I retreived a copy of check and read the information from the back of the check, they informed me that this company is not associated with them and that I must call directly to them.
I found the Customer Service number on the original billing that I had received. I've spent 2 hours and 10 minutes on hold. I am calling during the time that their recording says is business hours but there is no answer.
I've learned my lesson with a relatively small financial loss. I will always ensure, in the future, that I'm dealing with official publisher.
