I have been a registered user on eBay and PayPal since 1998. I have two accounts, one personal and one for business. I decided to stop listing and selling my Sterling Silver items one by one and make one big lot for either use or scrap. It sold, and the buyer paid.
As I got ready to print the shipping label, I saw an email from PayPal. It said: we have decided that we are going to hold your money for 21 days. You must process this order, and at the end of 21 days we will pay you, unless you can prove the item was shipped and received by the actual buyer and he leaves positive feedback, in which case it will be three days after submitting proof. That is still 10-15 days.
Customer service said they do that to everybody at some point because they have such a high rate of fraud. Then they said that if I did not ship the item and gave a refund, I would never be able to do business with them again. So I canceled, pulled all my banking info, and refuse to ever use PayPal or eBay again, since eBay owns PayPal. I have sent copies of all the emails to my customers explaining why I will no longer be doing eBay listings.
I also filed a complaint with the NY Attorney General's office about PayPal's practice of trying to force someone to complete a transaction without being paid. If you do business with or are considering using eBay and PayPal, do yourself a favor and don't.
Not only did I lose out on a nice sale, the buyer lost out on 2 pounds of Sterling Silver that he got for 76.03 lower than the spot price as of Thursday, which has gone up since then. Tomorrow I am off to the local shop and have to take 60% of the value. Thanks for nothing, PayPal and eBay.
