I worked for this company when it was Huffy Service First. I was paid very well, I got hourly plus commision to assemble bicycles at 2 different sporting good Stores. Later they lost those accounts. I was working at regular retail stores. I was so busy that my wife actually came to work as my assistant. I paid her $2 for every hour she worked out of my own pay check. I thought that was okay since i was assembling up to 90 nikes a day with her help. At $3.15 a bike that was good money.
I left the company when my own business I was running really took off. 5 Years later I found a job posting on the internet and applied. It was for Impact. I found out when I went for trining that they bought out Huffy. The pay was the same, commision. I was told that I would work 4-5 days a week. I had to go through the training again. I told them how far I was willing to travel and they still tried to send me farther away. When I did go over the 90 miles in a day I was only paid once for milage. They told me they tracked from zip code to zip code. This worked in their favor siince it ususally ment I went 100 miles or more and they only tracked 90. They would send me 90 miles away and I would get there and there would be no work or only $15 worth of work. When there was no work I did not get paid for anything. I report to my district manager that I arrived at a specific Target store and the store had nothing pulled to build. I would wait for 2 hours. Usually as soon as it hit 2 hours and there was nothing pulled for me to build I went home. This happened on about 15 ocassions. I was only paid twice for waiting.
When special project came up I would go to stores thinking I would get the pay rate listed in the book. Later I would find out that they lowered the rateof pay for the project and i made half of what I thought I would.
I can't even count how many times I had to call payroll and fight with them to get money that I was shorted on my check. I built everything from bicycles, to grills and furniture. It's really disappointing when you build a pool table and it takes you 9 hours and you find out your only getting paid $60. Or a peace of furniture that takes 5 hours and you get paid $12.
They were actually so stupid that they sent 6 of us to an office store to build furniture. I got to build 2 office chairs at $2.50 a piece.
They switched service coordinators and the new one kept sending to stores where the stuff was already built. Everytime I contacted my district manager he played stupid and said he'd try to me paid for showing up for no work. I never got paid.
For the summer I got laid off. I talked to the managers at some of the stores I services. They had a new guy coming in to build. The product on the shelves was unsafe and they were unhappy. I contacted my service coordinator who was new and did not care. I have not worked since May. I know we lost some accounts because Target and Toys r us went in house. Why would they hire a new technician If there were already 2 in the area? I lost my position so that they could pay someone new way less. I had no problem building 50 or more bikes a day. I could build 20 grills a day. I could also knock out a furniture reset myself.
I feel sorry for the poor schmucks who can only build 1 or 2 bikes an hour. THis company is a rip off. If you work there be careful and check every pay stub to make sure you weren't shorted. They still owe me money I will probably never see since I was indefinitly furloughed ladt month.
