Three years ago this month I ordered a pair of custom made spurs from Wes Griffin a spur and bit maker now located in Brookshire (also Katy) Texas. I advised him which pair of spurs that I wanted made from a website that he had then. He gave me a price and it was discounted a few dollars, I guess because I had purchased a pair of spurs and a bit off of Ebay from him. I also had ordered another custom made pair of spurs before that. That pair also took an act of Congress to get. Those took 6 months to get and were suppose to be ready in 30 days. After numerous emails and a registered letter I got them. He used the excuse of personal problems. He even gave me a headstall with his buckles for the trouble I had received. I took him at his word and ordered this pair which I have been trying to get for 3 years. I did the same as before sent him a check for half payment and he advised they would be ready in 30 days. Time went by and no spurs. I emailed him numerous times and my emails were ignored like before. I even emailed his "wife" (she sells his work on Ebay), she responded that they would be ready in 30 days. She also asked what shanks I wanted and I replied that bottle openers would be fine. More time went by still no spurs. I sent more emails without any answers. I did get one where he told me that that he did not have access to a plasma cutter and he could not make the spurs. Much more time went and many more emails still no spurs. After about 18 months I received an email where he wanted to give my money back. I advised him we made a contract on the spurs and that is what I desired. There were more emails between us and again he offered my money back with $15 for my trouble. A little later I offered a resolution to our problem, I asked if would build a snaffle bit with conchos that matched the first pair of spurs I had him make for me for the money I had already paid him. His reply by email was "sounds good". I waited 6 months without asking anything of him and never received any word from him in that 6 months. I then sent him an email asking if he was going to screw me over on the bit like he did on my spurs. His reply was he wasn't going to do that, he just wanted me to "loose my atitude". There were several more emails between us, I even offered to stop in Houston so we could talk about the problem when going home to Austin, which he didn't see any point to. After all of this I filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General's Office and the BBB in Houston. His reply to the BBB was that I needed therapy for my "control issues" and he would build my "stupid spurs" to end this matter. This has been about 3 months ago with no spurs and no replies to any emails. The man can do good work, but that is where it ends. I am not the only person who has had this same problem with him. My advise to anyone who wants to do business with him made it COD only. He can make quality spurs and bits and I would have a tack room full of his stuff if not so poorly treated by him. He also stated that I have continually insulted him. That is absolutely untrue. I told him that a man should keep and honor him word and he was a poor business man I have not "raised" my voice to him by any email ever sent to him.
