First Star Masonry And Paving
Poor service and workmanship

First Star Manonry and Paving.

Was given and estimate by John V. For new sidewalk in pavers, new drive, and a slab of cement 12X24 for a later addition to add a shed. I advised both John and Ed that the sprinkler system had to be moved and replaced outside the new side walk. There was sprinkler heads were the slab was going that had to be relocated as well. Ed advised that they would use interlocking blocks around the foundation because it was elevated due to pitch and I agreed as long as my shed could be anchored to the slab.

As the worked progressed, I was to pay in i3 installments. They asked for cash to keep the cost down.

The first day they showed up on the job at 10:30 AM with Mexican Immigrants that did not speak any english. They had no tools so I let them borrow mine to get started. John and Ed appologized and said theirs got stolen. Day 1 they removed the blacktop. Day 2 they began removing the sidewalk in preperation for the new pavers. All work was done by hand and loaded in the back of a dump truck. Day 3 it rained. I advised Ed and John I was leaving for vacation on the last week of July. They said they should be done by then. Day 4 rain. Day 5 they showed up late and began to lay pavers. I haulted the operation because the sprinkler line now ran directly under the new pavers. They removed the pavers and then moved the line out side the sidewalk. They put some sand back in the area where the line came out but did not pack it down. They finished the pavers while I was on vacation.
When I returned from vacation, my neighbor who was looking after my pets advised me that John decided to wash his truck in my yard. I also found beer bottles everywhere. They poured the cement slab but did not have the proper materail to do the job as per the contract, it was to have Rebar and a plastic membrane for moisture. John did not have the materials or tools to install. While the truck was waiting to pour in my yard for an hour, John went for the materials. Once again, I let them borrow my tools to install the rebar. I did not check the measurments at this time assuming it was correct. After it was completed, I advised John it was not level. He aggreed to fix the pavers. As the driveway was being poured, they had to remove some pavers that were fixed around the air conditing units. I was to pay them after the pour was complete. He advised he would put the pavers back later.
The next day I went out to measure the slab and it was only 12 X 23 which meant I could not buy a standard shed to fit. The paver were not put back the cement that supported the sidewalk decayed because they did it in the rain and it fell apart. I stopped payment on the check. I contacted Ed Delany and I advised him of all the problems. He said he would simply add another line of pavers and call it good. I refused because the slab which was undersized would not settle the same. The shed had to be connected to the slab and it was now going to rest on pavers so it could not be put down.

I have since fixed the sidewalk by removing all the outer cement and replacing, fixed the pavers around the airconditioners. I had to add sand to the pavers to lock them in place. The job was not completed and the slab has to be removed or the pavers have to be cut and a formed wall needs to be added with rebar and expansion joint to repair which will be costly. I had to clean my yard of debris left behind.

I am an unemployed school bus driver because my work is seasonal. I am now left expenses and work I had to do on my own and I can not afford the cost of fixing the slab.

I went to So. Brunswick Police to advise that I can not reach the company and the address on the bill is bogus. I then found out this was probably going to be a civil matter and I can't afford the expenses of a lawyer nor the money to repair the mess they left behind. I then opened a case with Franklin Police Dept that I was probably defrauded because they don't have a real address. My neighbor had used this company for work on his driveway and they have not returned to fix a mistake.
