I have twice rented moving trucks from RYDER in Daytona Beach, FL. The first vehicle had a dead battery. Once I was home and loaded I couldn't start it again. I conceed that I should have noticed that the inspection and walk-around was being conducted with the engine already on...
The second time I was moving from FL to TX. Like other consumers who have reported on RYDER Trucks, my cab was overheated after 2 hours of driving. I also had a styrofoam contained which melted into the cab floor and my soles became carbon-like.
On top of this, after the first night, my legs were covered in flea bites, from the truck being infested. I had to de-bug all my furniture and belongings, eventual having to give up and throw a lot of them away.
The worst part was re-fueling. The bleed valve in the gas tank, which allows air to escape as you fill up, was clogged. It would take me 30 minutes to re-fuel, because I had to do it gallon by gallon, so that the gas in tank could move in, push air out and then repeat. Not to mention my clothes which would be soaked in "blow-back" when the gas simply couldn't find a way down into the tank.
Best of all was customer service. I tried for 3 days calling the 1800 number, being on hold for hours, being re-routed. I was never given a replacement, a shop to take it into or a portion of my money back. I asked, believe you me.
I would recomend PENSKE. I have been very satisfied with their trucks. They are newer, so are still in good condition and are less prone to break down on you en route. I am sure the fewer less cycle they have will decrease the occurence of extra passengers (insects, bugs and fleas) I had to deal with.
Do yourself and your mind a favor. Don't rent RYDER.
