I was unfortunate to use Advanced Moving Systems last week for a move from Eastern Iowa to Cleveland (590 miles). The company contacted me by email. The person who contacted me is Odelia. I was quoted $1736 with free storage for 30 days for my
standard 2 bedroom household stuff. I have a family of 3 (my wife and kid).
Sunday, 19 Aug Cedar Rapids in Iowa -
2 Movers came to my apartment with a Ryder. They claimed that I have too much stuff,
increased the estimate to $1800. After loading 80% of my stuff in the van they threatened
to drive away unless I paid more. I was forced to sign new contract for $2000.
Wednesday, 22 Aug Cleveland, Ohio -
On 22 Aug I wanted my furniture to be delivered to my new apt in Cleveland. They are not
giving me any definite date for delivery of the furniture. And I strongly suspect that
I may not get back my stuff in time in a good condition.
Specific problems -
After the movers strated loading the furniture, they and the company used threats to
revise and increase the price every now and then.
They cancelled part of the contract which declares the total value of the goods. The
total value of the goods will be $6000, but I was forced to sign a section of the
contract that says that the value was $. 60 per pound.
The movers threatened to drive away the truck with 80% of the furniture if I did
not pay $2000.
I was forced to sign inventory list before it was even prepared.
The movers, after getting hold of all my furniture are refusing to answer my phone calls.
The movers are refusing to commit to a definite date for the delivery of the furniture.
The movers claimed that my furniture will be stored in Ohio but are now saying that
my furniture is in Indiana.
They were ill behaved and wanted money for everything and were using threats
to get the money.
I have my wife and 3 neighbours as witnesses to the whole proceedings.
