Public Storage
Sold my items without prior notice

I have been a customer of Public Storage for three years when I was diagnosed with a serious disease and had to move back home. I have never had a problem with them until about a week and a half ago when I recieved a post card, that I had never seen before stating that my items had been sold at auction nearly five days ago. Heartbroken, my mother contacted the office, who explained they had done everything to contact me but my information was bad. She went to the office the next day and was show an envelope that was hand written and sent by certified mail but never recieved. She explained that we had never recieved the letter nor had we recieved a notice stating the items were going up for auction. She explained that she had written the letter herself begging me to bring in even $100 and it would all go away.

She assured my mother that the property manager would contact us, but four days went by and we heard from no one. Finally after leaving a message in tears "Phil" the regional manager returned my call while I was at a doctors appointment and refused to speak with anyone but me. I returned his call crying hysterically, as everything I had worked 35 years of my life for was now gone. All I currently own is a mattress and four plastic storage tubs of clothes. "Phil" repeatedly insisted that it was a good sale, as if he need to justify his actions, but that he would contact the buyer and see if they would be willing to at least return my private documents including my birth certificate, bank and credit card information, my medical records, my house keys, the title to my car and my tax return information containing my social security number.

The next day after speaking with "Phil", an office employee called my mother and said that no one had returned anything and they assumed the buyers would not give me my private paper work back.

After several days, I sent an e-mail to their customer service department, who responded telling me to talk to "Phil". I explained I had and I had not heard from them. I received an e-mail back from fill stating that he had not yet heard from the buyer. I requested the buyers information to contact myself and he explained that they are under contract and can not diclose that information. I expressed that these people have my address, house keys, my birth certificate and could be selling my identity or breaking into my home, and yet, I wasn't allowed to know who they were. I expressed that I would have my attorney contact him since they seemed to be dropping the ball on a very serious situation. "Phil" responded that if I had my attorney contact him, he would no longer assist me with the recovery of my things.

That was this morning. I have since filed a complaint with the F.B.I.'s identity theft unit and filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commissions identity theft unit.

My doctors say that I wont live past my 40th birthday, so the next five years of my life will be dedicated to making sure this company is stopped. The stress from this alone is enough to put me in my grave and Public Storage could care less.

Why has no one filed a class action suit against this company yet? If all of these stories are true, why hasn't this site brought forth a lawyer to group everyone together and sue them? Something needs to be done to stop them and I am barely one solid person on my own.
