I signed up for the refer a friend program also and was ripped off. When I called to check the status of my rebate they simply stated "you did not sign up for that program"."There is no record of it." Which I know for a fact that I did!!! My mother gave me her account number and the 800- number.
They said I did not call the right 1-800 number. Which is apparently what they are telling a lot of people. I know I signed up for this and other rebates from this company, which I seriously doubt I will ever receive. I have tried contacting other customer service reps via email to try and get some help, because the customer service rep on the phone was so nasty towards me,
I'm still waiting to see if they will assist me.
Also, at a previous residence I had attempted to get service and the tech said I had "too many trees around", so he couldn't do it. Well, thats fine but they said they wouldn't debit the $21.50 equipment fee, since I never got service. Well, guess what? THEY DID! That messed my checking account up and every time I called the 1800 # they would connect me to someone else... Point is, I never got that $21.50 back.
Maybe, after that experience I should not have chose Direct tv again, But I believe that they know our options are very limited in some areas.
So much for customer Appreciation.
