It should be illegal to falsely advertise the way that Direct TV does. I signed up for service and referred my mother-in-law for the $100 referral credit during a promotion they were having. I emailed her my account number and she ordered service.
I called after receiving my bill and they said it would be approximately 3 months before I could get it. I waited and when I never got it I called and had to talk to an outsourced, incompetent customer service rep. When I asked him about the credit to my bill his first response was that my mother-in-law must have ordered it wrong and didnt have my account number. After debating the issue with me, he said she didn't call the "refer a friend phone number" to establish service and said I wasnt eligible for the referral credit.
Direct TV is a scam and they shouldnt be advertising a promotion that they never intend to make good on. They're shady business practices should be illegal.
