Originally our homeowners insurance was Metropolitan but in the mid 90's, they stopped selling insurance in the state of Ca. Our agent changed us over to Liberty Mutual and never notified us that we would have to pay a $100 cancellation fee. This company sent many threatening letters. (We had found a company that was 2/3 the cost of Libery Mutuals prices.)
I had to provide proof of our current insurer, which I did, and even had my current insurance agent call them personally and notify them by letter. Still the letters kept coming and I received threats of ruining our credit. I know this happened a long time ago and the agent was partly to blame but I never did pay the $100.
The thing that turns my stomach is the latest commercials they put on TV saying that they care about the individual and how they always do the "right" thing. What happened to truth in advertising? Just wanted to let people know what kind of company this really is.
