My personal catastrophe liability policy renewal showed a charge of $113 listed as a surcharge because they claim that my "Underlying homeowner policy not with Liberty Mutual Group." In fact, my homeowner policy is with Safeco Insurance which is a member of the Liberty mutual group. It says so on their letter head.
I am told that I do not qualify because they have separate underwriters and the two companies have not integrated their records. They believe this will be done in the future but until then I have to pay the surcharge.
I asked if the Liberty Mutual reported revenue includes the income from Safeco and the answer is yes. So my payment is included in the total revenues of the company.
I offerred to send a copy of my Safeco policy to them but apparently this would not suffice as proof that my homeowners policy is indeed from a member of the group.
I believe that this surcharge is punitive because they have not integrated their current files and I find it unreasonable to expect me to pay this fee.
