The scamming game of deception

I purchased a 50 inch HD Plasma Samsung Tv plus accessories from Conn's on 12/21. On there 12 month same as cash promotion totaling $3026.66 with 36 month warranty. The particular store is located at 1420 West Loop 336 N Conroe, Tx 77304.

I aggressively paid on my account at $300 a month for 10 months then called them to verify an accurate payoff amount 9. They informed me that my last payment would be for the amount of $140.36 which I then paid.

January I start getting phone calls from Conn's collections department. Saying I was past due on my payment of $128.24. I informed them that my account was payed off in Oct. 2007. They said they would look into this and call back.instead I got another collection call telling me I owed $174.00 with a balance on my account of $1476.28 and this call was by a different individual.

I again informed them there has been some mistake because I had call asking for my final payoff in 9 and payed my account off and the previous caller was checking into this matter. Aging this individual also said I'll check into it. This went on almost daily by different people till Feb. 2009 when I started asking for the managers. I got to talk to a manager by the name of Lucia at the number (800-898-7105 x 3601).

I again explained the situation to her and she said she would look into it and get right back to me. I waited for another week and still no call. So I called back She said didn't my manager call you I said no and she said he was supposed to call me. She explained to me that she research this matter extensively and found that the person whom I called for my final payoff did indeed give me the wrong payoff amount, he shorted the amount by $22.74. Since this was an error on their part they have closed the account and marked as paid in full and my credit report will show the same this was on 2/16.

Two weeks later I started getting calls again Clarissa, Mallissa and again I stated that this matter was closed and they were saying they showed no notations on my account of the situation and again they would check into it. I get a call on 3/3 from Mallissa and she stated that my account was not closed. The reason was the request that Lucia sent in was returned denied stating that the only way my account could and would be closed was by me paying the $22.74.

I said fine if this was the only way to put an end to this matter I would do it. I didn't have a problem with paying what I owe. I just have a problem with you all waiting over year to tell me you made a mistake and now you want me to what I don't owe. I went on with telling her that if I receive one more call and if my credit report doesn't show cleared, closed and paid in full I would be contacting my attorney.

She said she understood and this would close the issue and all would be as stated. Account closed, paid in full and my credit report would reveal the same. So I gave her my payment over the phone by credit card. (03/03

I didn't receive anymore phone calls but I did get another collection letter. I called Lucia and requested on 3/31 that she fax me a letter showing my account has been satisfied and closed. She checked my account and she stated to me that her records showed that I made the payment of $22.74 and my account was satisfied and CLOSED. That she cant fax me the letter but would submit my request to the documents department and they would mail me the letter.

No letter has been sent. My credit report shows 30,60 days late on payment with owing a balance of $1458. With credit reports being so vital these days they are seeing this as an opportunity to scare people into giving into their scam and unfair trade practices. So now i'm not going to be able to refinance my home because what they have done to my credit report.

4/24 I called Conn's at (409-832-1696) and when asked if I was calling to make a payment I said no and the woman hung up on me. So I called back and I got Robbie and I immediately told I have a request. I told her I would like them to fax me a copy of my payment history. She said okay, she couldn't do it but would send it to the research department and they would do it. She then asked me if I needed that immediately, I said yes and she said okay. Still no fax.

I have tried to rectify this situation and I have acted in good faith to appease Conn's and all they have done is give me the run around, lied and deceived me. They have no intention of being an honorable ethical company. I have reviewed BBB reporting, bloggs and other consumer reporting websites and have found Conn's to have a bad reputation for not honoring their service, warranties and billing practices. BBB alone has quite a list of reports of just the Beaumont, Tx branch alone.
