My wife and I hired City 2 City Van Lines to move our apartment on March 7th after another moving company canceled on us. My wife spoke to someone named David at the time. David, big fat gentleman of Isreali decent seem to be at the time a nice person who seem to be very professional at his line of work. My thought swould sson change about him and his business practices.
We decided to use City 2 City and David after he gave us a quote to move our stuff from a 3rd floor walkup into thier storage for $500 dollars. David stated that the storage would be free for one month, even thought we only needed it for 1 week, and that would be included in the price along with three of his movers. That price was great at the time but soon ballooned into a higher price.
When my wife initially spoke to David on the phone, he claimed he was just returning from another long distance move with someone that had all glass furniture and bragged that they did not even break one piece and the client was very happy and satisfied. He even let my wife speak to this so called client while she was there and she gave them praises on ther work. This seemed at the time great to us and was factor for deciding to go with City 2 City.
On the day of the move, March 7th, David showed up with 3 worker. The workers seem to be Mexican day workers for hire who could not speak any english. David told them everything they had to do, including wrapping the furniture in plastic shrink wrap and boxing my picture and fish tank. He then state that the shrink wrap and boxing that needed to be done would cost extra on top of the $500 quoted previously. We agreed to pay the little extra because it was no big deal. While all of this is going on he dealing with my wife while i direct the workers on what needs to go into storage.
I packed all my boxes myself and all these guys had to do was move the already packed boxes into storage along with my furniture. The workers were fast and i was somewhat impressed. While the workers were working, David reverts back to the truck and sleeps while the workers spend nearly 4 hours moving stuff into the truck and disassembling my beds. These guys were starting to take a long time getting my stuff out when all they had to do was just get it into their truck and back to storage, they did not have to pack the boxes and tape them up. It was already done for them.
At this point i start to get a bit tense and uneasy with what was going on. I spoke t David to have his guys pick up the pace. The next time we saw David during that day was when he returned to give us bunch of papers to sign and to give him money. I was expecting to pay $500 and a little extra for the wrap and boxes which i beleived to be included in the cost. But instead ended up paying $1003. The even had the nerve to ask me for tip for his guys. At this point im upset and ask him to explain his billing to me as to why the price jumped from $500 to double the price.
He states that he his guys started working such and such time, including tolls back to the bronx and moving the stuff from the truck into storage once they got to the bronx. He assued us that our stuff wil be well kept and nothing will break.
We told David that we would be ming into our new place sometime the week of the 18th of March. He says no problem, just give hima call and he will have our stuff ready. Gave him a call and he started telling us what dates is no good for him because he is booked and the only day he has is Monday the 16th. It's like he wanted to keep our stuff in storage to charge us extra.
I took the day off work to accommadate the movers into to the new apartment. Avid shows complaing that no one was home and calls my wife. Meanwhile im inside and see the truck pull up outside. He did not even ring the bell but call to complain to my wife. When I get outside he has the nerve to disrespect me by asking for my mother like i am a little child. When corrected, I told him that the women who he asked for as my mother is my wife he give me a silly laugh. At this point i realize that im dealing with am IDIOT. He then ask me to sign more papers and pay him. I tell him not until the job is done.
The moving view was totally different from the last time and were very incompetant. They were suppose to put my furniture back together which i ended up doing myself. While the workers are moving my stuff in and droping it anywhere, David is asleep in the truck once again. It got to a point where these guys were taking too long once aging to move my stuff in and now they are taking direction from my wife. It takes them another 5 hours to get a medium size truck of stuff into a 1st floor aprtment.
My wife complains to David about the workers and he come in fussing with them. At this point Im pissed off and my wife is even more pissed off. David demands another $1000 for moving my stuff back in and gets loud and demanding with my wife. He calms down and gies back outside when i gave him a look like i was going to tear his head off. My wife tells him he not getting paid until everything is in the apartment and set back up properly. He get mad and calls his boss. At that this point, we realize that David is not the boss and calls some guy named Chuck to deliberate on his behalf as to why we should pay them the $1000. After explain to Chuck our ordeal, we decide to pay these guys just to get them out of our apartment.
After these guys left, we ban to get our boxes in order and realize that some ithem are broken including my large 30 gallon fish tank which was cracked in three places. I am thru the roof at this point. If i had seen this before they left i would not have paid him anything.
I called to report my claim on broken item to City 2 City and i get run around for the next month. I submitted picture sto them of the damaged items and all i get is from Chuck is that the claim needs to be sent to the accounting department for handling. Its funny after i call these guys back after a month and that still have not submitted my claim but tell me to give them a price for what the broken item are worth and they will send me check. I made an agreement with anothre guy i believe to be the owner named Jordan for $250.00. Up to now i have not seem my money for the broken item.
I will be seeing these guys in court. For anyone wanting to hire movers, DO NOT use these guys. Their professionalism is extremely poor and heir business is dishonest in pricing. They quote you one price the bill you more when they have your stuff. NOT Nice!
In all i spent over $2000 dollars and a month and a half playing phone tagg to get reinbursed for my broken fish tank and other small items.
