Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is Mohammad Naseer. I would like to draw your kind attention to the fact of the matter, prior to my moving from Yorktown, VA to Virginia Beach, VA. I recently got a job in Virginia Beach so I decided to move close to my job. I had made plan to move on October 03 to VA Beach. My first and foremost step in planning was to contact and obtain services from the moving company. From the website I selected BEST FAMILY MOVING & STORAGE COMPANY.
The Owner Jeff Gallagher of BEST FAMILY MOVING & STORAGE COMPANY contacted me and set up the time to visit my apartment in Yorktown to give me a free estimate. On the first week of September, Jeff visited my apartment in Yorktown and gave me a free Estimate of $385/- Flat Rate as he said quote You don't have a lot of furniture unquote. The Flat Rate included 1x Truck, 2 x Person, Fuel charges, tax, loading, unloading, reassemble, disassemble, and wrapping of fragile items. The contract was signed and moving was scheduled for Oct 3rd at 1200PM.
One week before my move, I confirmed with Jeff Gallagher for the scheduled moving date and time because my sister and I needed to take half day off from work. I stayed at my place in VA Beach instead of driving back to Yorktown; my wife and sister stayed behind in Yorktown so they can come with movers. Again, on Oct 2nd, the time was reconfirmed. On Friday, October 3rd, no one from the moving company showed up on the scheduled time, therefore, I called Jeff and asked him about the movers and he told me that they are on there way and should be there any moments. I called Jeff again around 1310hrs and asked him where is the truck and movers were, and that time he mentioned me that his guys are lost and can't find your apartment building. I gave him my sister's phone number to contact her for directions in Yorktown as I was in the middle of something. My sister called me and said that movers were looking for an apartment near YMCA on Magruder Road in Yorktown, which is almost 3 miles away. Around 1315-1320 hrs, BEST FAMILY MOVING truck and 2 x people showed. They took almost 30 minutes to inspect the stuff and finally at 1400 hrs started loading.in the beginning, they started asking my wife and sister to pay them CASH in advance. I told Jeff that there was no agreement of CASH payment and in advance, he told me that his guys are only asking about form of payment and I can pay either CASH or Credit Card at finish of job time.
The problem started around 1445, when Jeff contacted me and said why it's taking so long to load the truck; I asked him that you should check with your guys why are they taking so long. He told me that his guys have to move the truck back and forth, as other residents in the apartment needed to take out there cars from the parking lot. I asked my wife about parking problem and she told me that there were 5-6 empty parking spots and she requested the movers to park the truck in an empty parking space as there is no Reserved Parking, but the movers told her that they are OK with the way the truck is parked. The Movers were in contact with Jeff all the times and getting some sort of instructions. They told my wife and sister that there was no fence and Jeff told them that the truck can go all the way back to the front door.in reality, the fence was there since I moved in January (you can contact FSK Management or Four Season Apartment Management for fence confirmation).
When contact was made with Jeff, he was telling the same story that when he came for the in-house free estimation there was no fence at that time, which is totally baseless. Jeff said because of the other residents it is taking long time for loading and asked us to manage the parking/traffic in that area. I told him that managing the parking/traffic is not my responsibility and I am a tenant like any other resident and there are about 30-40 apartments and I cannot request them to not park their vehicles until loading is completed. He asked me to pay extra $300/- for the parking hassle and either my wife or sister should go out and manage the parking/traffic. I reminded him that it is an apartment and you have to know these types of problems/issues before giving me a free estimate. I refused to pay extra $300/- and managing the parking/traffic. He told me that his guys are there from 1300 hrs and still the loading is not done and he would ask his guys to unload the truck if parking/traffic is not managed.
I told him that his guys were there between 1320-1325 hrs not at 1300hrs and loading didn't start until 1400hrs, and I can pay extra $50/- for the parking hassle, but not $300/-. Jeff told me that I have extra stuff in my house and that is why it is taking extra time for loading. I told him that he should go to my apartment and take a look what stuff is extra as there was nothing added to it.in fact, we have moved 15-20 boxes, clothing, and few fragile items by our self to the new location. Around 1530 hrs, my wife called me and told me, they are unloading the stuff from the truck. I contacted Jeff and he told me that since I was not paying an extra $300/- and according to me his guys are working slowly, he is canceling the contract, even I pay him $1000/- he will not move my stuff and I will be in problem as it is very difficult to find movers on a short notice. I told him that is fine with me and finding movers is my problem, not his.
While unloading the stuff, one fragile box was damage and the contents inside were broken (Tea Set). Also, the Sofa set was damage due to the negligence and unprofessional unloading manner of BEST FAMILY MOVING movers.
