I initially opened an account w/Spiegel/FCNB back in 1992 under my maiden name of Sonia Gonzalez. After several purchases I decided to close out my accout. I paid off my entire balance and closed the account... Or so I thought.
In 1996, Spiegel turned me over to a collection agency & charged off an account they claim I opened in 1995. I disputed that. However, somehow in a country where I apparently was the only Sonia Gonzalez and the reality of identity theft or fraud was light years away or not even a consideration, it appears these fools continue to hold me responsible for something completely out of my control.
To make matters more complicated they destroyed my credit history and now that I am in the process of attempting to qualify for a home mortgage loan while my husband sacrifices his life in Iraq as an American soldier, I will not be able to get the loan due to this travesty.
I demand & require their immediate removal of this debt, I have attempted hundreds of phone calls & e-mails. I have had no helpful response except: "take it up with the Midland Credit Management Corporation who is now in control of the account". They outright have refused to deal with me and the account. They rebuttal and demean me. The insult my intelligence and have on numerous occassions told me they will get their money no matter what.
This poor attitude and lack of business ethic is sickening.
This is due to come off my credit reports in May of this year but at this point it is a matter of not only necessity but honor and principle to get this company's poor practices exposed immediately for the fraudulent and thievery they committ upon its customers.
My home closing is supposed to be April 30, it is my hope that this step can help me to resolve my issue with them and have the opportunity of pursuing the American dream with my American soldier.
