Eilid moving and storage
Worst rating with the Better Business Bureau BBB

I had a company by the name of Eilid moving and storage provide me wtih a binding contract to move some things from Flushing, N.Y. To Florida. The binding contract was for $761.75. When the movers showed up they began loading the items which I had packed myself. When they were done loading the driver handed me a bill for $1806.00. I was completely at their mercy, they had valuable and sentimental items on their truck and they told me if I didn't agree to pay them they would charge me for the loading and unloading. I was hopeful to work this out with one of their supervisor's. It soon became apparent I was in for quite a ride.

The people in charge just gave me the run around stating that I didn't have to go thru with the move however I would have to pay for their drivers to come back and unload what they had already loaded. The cost to do this was equally outrageous. The items being shipped were the belongings of my mother who had requested that these items be delivered to her grand-daughter upon her death. I felt a strong obligation to fulfill her wishes. Again I felt that I would be able to reason with these folks and not feel like I have been taken advantage of.

I have done some research, a little to late I might add. The above named company has the worst rating available with the better business bureau. They fradualently advertized as being a bbb member. Most of the complaints against the company involved billing.

The company has held me hostage with them in possesion of my mothers belongings. ON 5/27/01 they delivered to the Florida destination where I had a bank check (official check) waiting. They were to provide us with at least twenty four hours notice. They called at ten am of the intended delivery date.

The drivers pulled up to the driveway and backed in. They immediately got out and asked for payment before unloading. I had already given 500.00 as a deposit mind you. They insisted I pay them in cash and only cash. I was shocked that a company wouldn't accept an official bank check as payment. Things got even more clouded, if I didn't find a way to get the cash to them the same day I was going to incur a re-delvery fee of $600.00. We were able to get the cash and they delvered the items.

Don't we have rights in such situations?
How do I fight this? Any suggetions would be helpful.
