This is just a summary of my experience with this company. Bay window (1 large fixed, 2 smaller double hungs flanking the fixed), and another 2 double hungs for the kitchen ordered, installed at my residence earlier this year. The quality of the windows is ok, based on what we paid for them.installers (company?) initially blew off 1st appointment, even after I called in earlier that day to the company to verify they would be out as promised. When I called in to complain about the NO-SHOW (as with most people, I can't afford to just take a day off on a whim), I was given the usual response of "We're sorry, couldn't be helped, blah, blah, blah..." I also am in the business of installation/service work (different industry now, although I've done home remodeling in the past), and while I DO agree things can happen to throw off one's schedule, a simple phone call in advance would be appreciated. I usually know well ahead of time when I will be late for a pre-scheduled appointment and react professionally when required. I had to reschedule the install for several days later. That day, the installers were almost 2 hours late (again, NO phone call from either the installers, or a company rep). At least they showed that time. As far as the workmanship, a lot was left to be desired. My fault for not keeping an eye on things while the work was in progress. I usually stay out of the way of fellow tradesman and let them do their thing. Poorly insulated (especially the bay window), trim work on the inside of the bay window did not line up, and the entire window itself wasn't aligned with the new drywall on the inside, making finish trim installation a headache. I had to remove/re-install the trim on the windows to insulate them better, as well as, unscrew and re-attach half of the bay window to align the window with the finished drywall so when I finished out the window the mouldings would sit flush with the wall (I had asked the installers to leave the trim so I could finish it off myself. This wasn't an oversight on their part.). The two double hungs in the kitchen weren't centered in the rough openings and there were several small spots where the caulk was missing or not smoothed out neatly. I redid that as well. While I should have called Universal to express my feelings on the above issues, I didn't want, nor have the time for, a crew to come back and fix something I knew I could do better myself. I have a bad disc in my back and could not have handled the bay window by myself, which is the only reason we had the work done by someone else. Anyone considering hiring this company for anything, beware and be vigilant. Finally, not a single phone call from anyone within this company thanking me for the business or to follow up in any way. Red flags abound within this company.
