Called this company to repair a wall destroyed by termite infestation. Not a big deal. They came out did an estimate which included remove and reframe a 3 window window frame and paint and finish wall to finished house appearance which includes trim and baseboards. Ok, bill estimate was at $1503. Didn't sound so bad since i didn't know if i could do the work with out roof collapsing. So I called them out and the work started out. I had already started the rip out of insulation and drywall / plaster before they did the estimate and the told me that was not included in the estimate.
I had a wall with about 2 inches of plaster so the windows and door should be removed or a facing strip added to studds to push drywall out to original point on windows. They said they would remove window and reframe it to fit so it would be smooth with the wall. OK, sounds good lets get started. They knocked out all the studds and began installation. I was present the entire time. None of the two by fours were cut flush at ends and they nailed them to boards with as must as a 1/2 gap in between joints. They never removed window and or straitened it from the destruction of the termites.
They only bought 6 2X4's and 3 4"x8" sheetrock boards and 48ft of insulation. Averaging about $150 to $200 in supplies from Home Depot which I when in and checked prices on everything at my cost which is far more than contractor prices. So after tear out they removed the black partical board that seperates outside brick facia from main wall from moisture and insects not to mention they even removed the tyvak paper and said "its alright it doesn't do anything anyway". So they buttoned up the wall and none of the drywall matched.
I asked one kid that was working on it why there was a huge dip in the wall and he said "ugg" like it was a big inconvience. So he just filled it in with a ton of putty and smoothed it out. Looks somewhat ok. The real kicker was my light switch box was falling into the wall cause they cut the hole too big. The boss man suggested I get a Three Tier box and install it but what am I to do with a dead switch. How stupid is that idea? Now the wall is "semi-finished" and we have an arguement about trim. He said it wasn't part of the estimate but the estimate said "finished" and a "finished wall means install trim and baseboards.
So needless to say I had to "finish" the wall. Now my front door doesn't close all the way and is hard to open. But they refused to fix that problem which is a direct result of there repair to the same wall. The window was never removed and never reframed and now sticks out from wall about 2 inches and over just looks like A@#. But the real kicker is all the owner kept saying is "I'm loosing money". I don't see how. He never pulled permits, I did half the ripout myself before estimate, and window was never removed or reframed.
So I called him on that and he said take a $100 off the bill. I should never have paid for this service. I plan on checking with local inspection and permit laws in virginia and having this checked and then repaired the right way at there expense. I wouldn't ever recommend this company to anyone even if I hated them. This was the worst work I have ever seen in my life. Please don't use them or your going to be in the same hole I'm in. Out money and still have to do the work your self.
