Like some of the other consumers here, I noticed two unauthorized $10.00 deductions from my personal bank account last week from Paypal. I did not receive an email from paypal regarding the situation but did shortly receive an email saying it had been refunded. I logged on and discovered that $10.00 had been refunded, but there were new $10.00 charges for which I didn't receive any emails. It seemed the "your money is being refunded" email was an attempt to keep me from looking any further into the situation.
As I know that Paypal and Skype are essentially the same company it was obvious to me that something fishy was, and is, going on.
I called my bank and they promptly cancelled the charges. Only after I contacted my bank did I receive an email from Paypal stating that there appeared to be some fraudulent activity on my account, and from what I can gather, if I had not contacted my bank, Paypal would have done nothing.
Upon researching the scam online I have discovered that this has been going on for several years with hundreds of consumers. It is obvious that neither Paypal nor Skype (in the possible but not probable circumstance that they are not directly involved) has taken any action to remedy the problem.
It sounds like a huge scam to me, and I have promptly closed my account with Paypal.
