Target Super Center Store Manger "Greg" refuses to help with Sony Play Station that was USED in the BOX!

Dear Readers,

It's with great sadness that I have to report my local Target store for what in my opinion is out right stealing. Here's my story as I recapped it in a letter to the store manager, Greg.

Here is a re-cap of the situation:

On March 22nd 2008 my husband and I purchased a Sony Play Station 80g along with several accessories for our son. Upon opening the box we discovered that the unit was cracked in several places. Immediately my husband contacted your store to report this and request the unit be exchanged. However, at the time this was a very hard item to get and your store had none in stock so the exchange was impossible. We deicide to keep the game until you received another one in to exchange ours with. However, some time went by and you hadn't received a replacement unit. We accepted that as the unit was operating and our son was able to play.

Mid July the unit stopped working. It was less then four months old at the time. I brought the unit in to your store and the teenagers at the customer service desk gave me a scolding about not calling daily to see when a new game arrived in your store so it could have been exchanged earlier. I was completely discussed after having been scolded and berated by kids about my lack of responsibility in the situation. Forget Targets responsibility it was my fault, the customer!

So on July 13th again we purchased another $499.99 Sony Play Station unit. Upon bringing the item home and opening the box I carefully inspected the unit. I was SHOCKED to discover that the unit was USED! Upon removing the unit from the box and placing it on the floor I clearly heard rattling from within the unit. I immediately called your store to report this, and asked for another unit to be held for me.

When I arrived at the store the next day they said they did not have another unit in the store. (I was promised that one was held for me, the evening before.) So I asked to return the unit. Your customer service representative was unable to process the refund stating their was a problem because I paid on two separate credit cards. She said the register was only allowing her to give me a gift card. I declined the gift card and said that I would like the money refunded on my credit cards. However, despite my protests the young lady was unable to help me.

That same day we had a death in our family and we left town for New York. We brought the game with us. During our stay I took the game along with the original register receipt and the extended warranty card into a local Target store. Josi was the associate (manager) who assisted me. I was told that since the item was purchased in Florida that I needed to take the item back to that store when I returned home. Josi was unable to process the return in the computer, just like the young lady in your store. Josi said that he would be agreeable to exchange the unit but, he did not have the same one. I left the store with the unit.

When I returned home (back to Florida) within 48 hrs I contacted your store for assistance. I do not want to send the game in for repair. I want what was represented to me when I purchased the item in your store. A new unit in the box.

I'm willing to wait until you receive one in as I know the 80g unit is very difficult to find. The original game that I bought I would like a FULL refund for. I should have been more forceful about the situation rather then re-purchasing another $499.99 unit! Target should have been more customer service friendly and provided me with some customer service at the time as well. It was easy to just refuse me.

In the last 10 months I've spent OVER $1,200.00 on Sony Play Stations PLUS another $124.00 on accessories, all at your Target store, and I don't have one that works to play! This is unacceptable.

Which is why I'm writing you. As a final attempt to resolve the matter before I file my claim in the Pinellas County courts. I sincerely hope that you will help me and not force us into the court system for a resolution.

I would like to say that for YEARS me and my family have been loyal Target shoppers. We don't skip from store to store based upon who has what on sale. Target is our store, Period. I feel offal about how I've been treated. I'm not asking rather begging for your assistance to bring a fair and proper closure to this matter.
