Target.com Target and consumer abuse!

Beware of buying anything from Target. I bought a GPS unit that was dead on arrival. Of course no one was happy but Target will let us just do a fair exchange since I have a receipt dated Dec 4th and received the item a week before Christmas directly from their warehouse. NO, Target will not do an item for item exchange if your electronic device is defective upon arrival, they insist you have to mail it at your cost to the manufactor so they can now give me a used item. This is outrageous to say the least. Every other store that had this GPS on sale Black Fridaywould have taken it back if proven defective out of the box.

I bought a 1450lmt GPS on Thansgiving Day which stated had Blue Tooth. I knew this item did not have blue tooth and didn't care so I bought it at the wonderful price offered and promtly contacted customer service to let them know of their error. I received a nasty note back stating if I feel this is wrong to check the manufactures website. Okay, I thought I was just being helpful. A week later an email came from Target cancelling my order and everyone elses who bought this GPS (seems they cancelled a lot of orders for different items from what I"ve read around the internet from that day) saying they had the wrong information and if you still wanted the unit you had to follow this link provided and put in your special code. Since I missed every sale for this GPS on Black Friday which I would have went to I followed the link and re-bought the unit. The price was still great.

Now remember I bought and paid for a new working unit and expected to at least at some point use a new 1450LMT GPS unit but that's not what Target thinks. The unit was dead on arrival which of course is upsetting on Christmas day when you go to play with your new toy but things happen and I'll just go to the store the day after (today) to do a fair exchange. When I tried to pull my receipt off the website it says I cannot exchange this item EVER. Either I choose to send it back for a refund which will never cover me buying a new one now and they know itor send it to the manufacture at my cost to get a refurbished one. Are you kidding me. Why didn't they just send me a used GPS in the box? What's the difference.

I've never heard of a store not honoring a fair exchange if the item was defective right out of the box. Why would a store do this anyway, since it's horrible customer care. When I figured this had to be wrong this morning I called customer service and was told "tough luck you lost out on all the sales now for this GPS and, you have no choices" I swear they almost said that word for word but not exactly. Know what I mean?

Now I did my homework (better late than never) about their return policies on their website. It is so vague they can turn down you returning anything at anytime if they are just cranky that day. Their is nothing about defective product exchanges only talk about a 15% restocking fee for electronics returned, how they can find your receipt, how you have 90 days, blah, blah, blah. Nothing about my issue so why is it an issue. Be a good seller and do a fair trade!!!

I've contacted the Attorney General in my state concerning this matter since I feel it's consumer fraud/abuse at this point. They advertised an item wrong right before it goes on sale for one day all over the country to draw you in to buy it, they cancel that order on you a week later now saying oops Garmin gave us the wrong info (they should check the info before inserting it into their website), than they could care less if you get a working product. I thought a product has to work as promised by the person you bought it from.
