Several months ago, I contacted Peter Raymond because I was looking for a make-up & hairstylist for my wedding in San Diego, CA. I am from Colorado so I ran a search about him and his company online and I didn't find any feedback, negative or positive. I made sure that he was registered through the California Bureau of Barbering and Cosmetology & sent him the $450 deposit to schedule him for September the 6th. The total for me & my 3 bridesmaids for hair & make-up was $725, which was expensive but I figured, hey! You get what you pay for, right? WRONG!
Well, after I sent him the deposit he went to a branch location for my bank in California. My bank called me and said, "There is a man here that doesn't have an account and is trying to cash a check, did you give it to him?" I responded yes, but now I'm a little concerned. This man is running a business and has no bank account? Weird...
Prior to the wedding day, I had asked Peter several times if I could schedule a test-run to be sure that we were on the same page. I told him that I wanted my make-up to look natural & that I wanted my hair put up and that I didn't want to leave it down due to the humidity in San Diego. He acted offended and told me that he was very diligent & that there was no need for a test run. He promised me that I would like his work. I informed him that I needed to be at the wedding site at 3:00 to get ready for my wedding.
The wedding day came, we arrived at the salon at 10:30 per his instruction.in short Peter would not listen at all to what we wanted. Peter would do exactly the opposite of what we requested. He would not put my hair up even though I had requested it at least 20 times, he would not put my bridesmaids hair up even though she had requested it several times, I told him I did not want to wear blue eyeshadow, but he put it on me anyway, he didn't finish my hair, he didn't finish my make-up, and he didn't finish my bridesmaids make-up. He took up five hours of our time and couldn't get us done in time! A normal professional would take 15 minutes to do make-up, and 30 minutes for a hairstyle per person, he took 5 hours and didn't finish!
One of my bridesmaids told him specifically prior to him doing her hair and make up that: A. - She wanted to wear her hair up and B. - She did not want to wear silver or grey eyeshadow. Peter would not put her hair up because "He liked it down" even after she argued with him about this for 4 minutes, and, he put silver eyeshadow on her probably just out of spite! She looked like a raccoon!
To make matters worse, we arrived at the wedding site 45 minutes late because of him, and he still didn't finish my make-up or hair after we made it to the wedding location. I continued to tell him "I want my hair up" and he continued to argue "I like it down", even my photographer piped in and said that if I wanted my hair up, he should put it up, but Peter would not do it! I have even more to say about him but unfortanately I don't have all night to write about everything he did wrong.
Honestly, I don't believe that Peter knew how to do hairstyles or make-up. He made me so late for my own wedding that I didn't even have time to run a comb through my hair or wipe off some of that horrid blue eyeshadow, or put mascara on. When I walked down the aisle, my hair looked like a rat lived in it and my make-up looked like something a cheap hooker would wear! It was horrible!
Peter charged me a lot of money for a job that was not finished. He has ignored my requests for a refund and claims that it is my fault that I didn't like his work. Because his work was so terrible, I now have to have my wedding pictures re-done! I have incurred several hundreds of dollars in expenses because of this mans crappy work to redo my wedding photo's! Please don't make the same mistake that I did and get your hair and make-up done by someone else! Peter Raymond is the most incompetent hair and make-up "artist" that I have ever met!
