I was sold a Platinum Protection contract under misleading information.
I was approached by a representative of Platium saying this was not a sales call. The "saleman" then told me that crimes were happening in our area and that a member of our county police department had recommended their company to several people in our neighborhood since the alarm system Platinum provides does not involve a phone line that can be cut. Since Platinum was in the area installing they were also giving away 5 GE alarm systems in order that they get more presence in our neighborhood but that I must install today.
I was then offered an extended trail period and during the "sales pitch" I was told I could cancel the contract if I ended up having trouble paying. This was a lie. I called Platinum on the last day of my trial period and was told to mail in a form. I did so, but the form's envelope was not marked until the following day and upon arrival Platinum did not accept my cancellation and told me I am now bound to a 60 month contact with no way out except paying 80% of the contract.
I was mislead by the salesperson and now cannot get out of the contract without it costing 1000s of dollars. This was not what I was led to believe I was buying.
