Foreclosure "consultant" scam - false money-back guarantee, illegal upfront fees

Home Assure claims to have its main office at the Empire State Building in New York but if you look up the Empire's Web site and search for listed tenants - you will not find Home Assure on this list.

Also, Home Assure claims that other consumers who filed usacomplaints. Coms against them on this site are competitors. I guess that means the State of Minnesota Attorney General, Lori Swanson, is also a competitor. She names HOME ASSURE IN HER LAWSUIT against several "foreclosure consultant" companies that charged Minnesota homeowners up to $2,375 to save their homes but failed to provide promised assistance that would help them retain home ownership.

"The suits allege that these companies used websites, targeted mailings, and/or the telephone to solicit homeowners by assuring that the companies could stop the foreclosure process. Consumers who contacted these companies were charged an immediate fee before any services were performed, in violation of Minnesota law. Homeowners have complained that these companies failed to deliver on promises of assistance after collecting these up-front fees." Read the news release here: http://www.ag. State. Google Home Assure and you'll find a civil case against them in Florida too.

My parents almost fell for this trap. The "consultant" we spoke with was very convincing and reassuring that he had a pre-approved plan with our mortgage company. All we had to do was send him a copy of a cashiers check to receive the plan and get the process rolling. But I caught him in a lie. He first told me a copy of the check was all he needed to send us the plan for review. The next day he wanted the check Fed Exed, or a tracking number to prove it was in the mail. He then said he could not release the plan because some people in India controls his ability to release the locked documents, until money is received. Bull! During our first conversation he said there were no upfront fees. That changed with each conversation, as hopes increased and our time dwindled. Our conversations with Home Assure lasted about a week before I caught on to them. Seems like I may be one of the luckier victims.

Before we got involved, I searched Home Assure in the Better Business Bureau Web site but I only saw one complaint. As a result, I thought this company was legit until I caught them in the lies. They really messed with the wrong person this time. I work in the media and I plan to expose Home Assure to the full extent, if they are scamming people. I plan to file a complaint with consumer affairs, the attorney general and anyone else who will listen. If you are a consumer who is being scammed by these people I encourage you to do the same thing. Do your homework before giving anyone your precious money in time of possible foreclosure. I told my parents not to give them a dime!

Everything I say here is true, based on the state Web sites, court records and my personal emails with a Home Assure representative.

Home Assure, you should be ashamed of yourself!
